It all started in July 2004 when we moved to the south coast. A few weeks of stop/start driving to work soon resulted in "oh well it's only 8 miles and flat, so I might as well get on my bike".
FATAL! Two weeks of cycling on a mountain bike with knobbly tyres, into a prevailing southerly wind on the way to work and a westerly on the way home, soon took its toll and it was off to the local bike shop for some "slicks".
Super speedy me, a whole minute off the commuting time but still hard work.
Lying down on the job.
An article in Velovision magazine planted the seeds in my mind for alternative transport. Why not lie down and go feet first? It should (in theory) be more aerodynamic and certainly a lot more comfortable. A couple of hours at Bikefix and I'm sold and so is a bike. I bought a HPV Streetmachine GT and was as happy as a pig in clover.
Family transport.
It's not just me that's gone horizontal. The kids have got a KMX Kart which was bought from Kinetics in Glasgow. The boy is also the proud owner of an Islabike Luath 700 which is great to ride and perfectly scaled for littler people.
To let the rugrat keep up on family rides we got rid of the tagalong and splashed out on a Landescape tandem.
Going fixed.
One thing lead to another and I've decided to try something different; I've gone fixed and this website chronicles the trials, tribulations and rantings associated with the project. |
